Dependable para educator with strong teamwork and problem-solving skills. Committed to fostering positive classroom environments and enhancing student engagement..
I understand what it means to work in Special education; What I mean is, I understand that this isn't like a normal class room, the only thing that is certain in special education is the uncertainty . I understand that I must help to educate them the best way possible and also, help them with whatever behavior/emotions they may have pop up.
I very recently learned (my daughter is 12 years old and is also Autistic) with my own child, that sometimes when she has a bad behavior, she doesn't realize what shes doing. Its not until she calms down, that she realizes the severity of what shes done and she ends up breaking down, crying beside me. It was in that moment that I realized she didn't always know what she was doing and only after she calmed down, did she understand what she had done. It made me realize , even more so than before, that I wanted to help other special needs children who, like my daughter, Have these moments. I want to help them regulate themselves and understand that , it really is ok that they have these feelings and the only way to help them regulate, is to yell/scream and let it out. I understand its a difficult situation, but I want these children to know that its ok and they're not going to go through this alone.
I have spent the last 4-5 years in HeadStart and in those years, through the many children I have encountered. Children who are physically/emotionally different, are who I love to work with the most. On the outside, they're different. But on the inside, they are all the same. They just want to be treated like everyone other child. They just want to have friends and be accepted. I want to be a part of that Journey for these kids. I started out as a sub. I spent a lot of time subbing in the special needs rooms . I ended up falling in love with these children. I would LOVE be a part of it again . I know it would be a great experience. I promise you that , IF you hire me to be an assistant in the SPED department, You will not regret it.
