I first worked a summer job as a hostess in high school, which was my first experience in the food service industry. Along with hosting, I did a number of other things, like running and bussing tables, and gained experience working in a fast-paced environment. The job I've worked for the past few years, at Dolce Neve Gelato, has helped me hone my food service skills, as I had to serve, regularly clean, and communicate with customers. I have confidence in my ability to pick up quickly on the requirements of certain jobs and handle situations with customers appropriately.
For nearly five months I have become acclimated to the fast-paced environment of serving. I now have the ability to:
- Welcome and accommodate guests
- Carry large amounts of food/beverages at a time
- Memorize food and drink menus
- Anticipate the needs of customers
I feel confident enough now to take on a more demanding serving position.
