Founder of the Future Black Leaders of Fairfax Cohort (FBLF Cohort) SY2020-2021

  • The purpose of the Future Black Leaders of Fairfax Cohort (FBLF) was to provide current Black educators in FCPS exposure and access to the information and networking often needed to pursue leadership opportunities. Through monthly cohort and mentorship meetings, participants expanded their knowledge of leadership opportunities in the district, networked with current school-based and central office leaders, and received mentorship support. By the end of the program, participants had increased awareness of leadership roles in the district and begun to build their professional network. The goal was to begin removing some of the cultural barriers in FCPS that may hinder Black educators' pathway to leadership.

Co-Chair of the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) SPARKS Committee

  • SPARKS was a leadership development program for educators. Induction occurred after a rigorous application and interview process. I was selected and trained in 2012 and appointed to co-lead the program in 2013. As Co-Chair, I facilitated leadership training for new educators, worked with union governance at the local and state levels, and planned networking events for SPARKS members.
