USBP El Paso Sector's Specialty Units:


  • January 2015-August 2015, El Paso Sector Law Enforcement Technical Collection Unit (LETC), Collects, retains, and analyzes personally identifiable information (PII) from electronic devices. Utilizes digital forensic tools to acquire and analyze data from various electronic devices.
  • December 2011-February 2014, Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) and Border Patrol Disrupt Unit. These units typically focused on proactively identifying and dismantling criminal organizations involved in illegal border crossings, smuggling, and other illicit activities. Responsibilities include illicit radio intercept communications, geospatial intelligence, and signal intelligence.
  • October 2009- April 2011, Critical Incident Teams (CITs) were specialized units that responded to and investigated incidents involving Border Patrol agents, particularly those involving serious injury, death, use of force, or significant media attention. These teams, which existed in most Border Patrol sectors, were disbanded in 2022 and their responsibilities were transferred to Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).
  • May 2008 – September 2008, El Paso Sector’s Background Investigation Unit. USBP background investigation team is responsible for conducting thorough background checks on applicants for CBP positions, including Border Patrol agents. This team verifies information provided by applicants, investigates potential issues, and determines suitability for employment based on established criteria.
