Kirby Employee Benefits / Congruity HR
Stuart, FL

SENIOR BENEFITS ACCOUNT MANAGER
11.2023 - 12.2024

Job overview

Employee benefits brokerage acquired by Congruity, Inc. to serve as the in‑house agency for Congruity HR’s PEO clients, along with their existing clients, offering fully insured and level-funded medical plans, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits for small to mid‑sized employers.

  • Benefits Administration
  • Client Service
  • Account Forensics
  • Compliance
  • Renewal Support
  • Agency Operations
  • Account Management & Benefits Administration for 15-20 small, and mid-sized (3-400 employee) employer groups, the largest portion of clients falling in the 75 to 200 range.
  • Uncovered $40K+ in discrepancies during a COBRA inquiry-improperly directed remittances and coverage on unreported terminations. Traced missing funds, negotiated retroactive terminations, and recovered approximately $44K.
  • Discovered extensive data integrity issues in a pre-renewal census reconciliation (outdated records, unreported hires/terminations, and a deceased employee, still active). Coordinated with clients and carriers to reconcile records, and process retro terminations, recovering $15K in overpaid premiums.
  • Implemented a new platform to streamline and standardize benefits materials across agency and PEO, improving efficiency, accuracy, and consistency while elevating the professional image of deliverables.
  • Identified a pattern of inaccuracies in employer contribution affecting payroll reports across multiple accounts; learned contributions were often assumed without formal verification or documentation; implemented a standardized Rates & Contribution Strategy requiring annual discussions and written documentation of contributions, plan selections, and rates with client sign-off to ensure accuracy.
  • Employee benefits brokerage acquired by Congruity, Inc. to serve as the in-house agency for Congruity HR's PEO clients, along with their existing clients, offering fully insured and level-funded medical plans, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits for small to mid-sized employers.

Welcome! We're already several pages into chapter 2, so let's catch you up with a quick recap...

đ‚đĄđšđ©đđžđ« 𝐎𝐧𝐞: Adventures in nursing—delivering babies, managing ventilators, changing lives, and saving them too; Max Security Prison, Psychiatric Emergency, US Veterans. Boy, do I have stories! My final contribution: traveling NY State to test thousands of elderly and high-risk individuals for COVID-19 amid the pandemic.

Began with a move from New York to North Carolina. Somewhere along that drive it hit me—I'd left behind my hometown; now was the perfect time to leave behind a career I'd outgrown. Just like that, chapter 1 was in the rear view mirror. Straight ahead—Employee Benefits!

My plan? Grad school –>HR degree –>Benefits ... until four courses in, I received a job offer—in Employee Benefits, no degree necessary. I was ecstatic!

Landed at Scott Insurance (Dec 2021), joining a 6-person team as the third Account Manager. Together we managed a $2M+ book of business.

In 2023, opportunity knocked: a fully remote role with Kirby Employee Benefits, managing accounts and helping to rebuild post-acquisition.

The skills I gained in nursing—analytical thinking, relentless problem-solving, attention to detail, fixing things from the root cause—have proven invaluable in benefits.

𝐒𝐹𝐩𝐞 𝐰𝐱𝐧𝐬:
There's something extra rewarding about making things right for a client who had no idea anything was wrong.
⋇ Discovered improperly directed COBRA remittance and premiums on terminated employees—recovered $44,000 the client didn't know was missing.
⋇ Pre-renewal census audit uncovered data integrity issues—secured $15,000 in premium refunds.
⋇ Identified systemic employer contribution discrepancies, implemented standardized documentation and validation workflows to prevent recurrence.
