I transitioned to Pediatrics by joining unit 44/10-5 MS. This has been my favorite unit to work on because you're able to see the resilience of our smallest patients. It's also been the most difficult unit, because most of the children come in through no fault of their own. Their illnesses are usually caused by their caregiver or are congenital in nature. Once the Tele Monitoring Unit opened, our MSTs transitioned to Support Techs and primarily help our unit by running our front desk, helping patients ambulate, transporting patients, feeding babies, and keeping our unit clean and free of clutter. Along the way, I've also assisted our Pediatric ICU with their payroll and administrative duties while their unit assistant was on maternity leave. Most recently, I've been assisting our Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy program with scheduling and the pre-evaluation of patients coming in for transplant. I've assisted both of these units while maintaining my full time position on Unit 44/10-5 MS.
I transitioned to Unit 64 MS as a Monitor Support Tech. As an MST, I monitored and interpreted patient ECG rhythms, while also serving the unit by manning our front desk, and helping patients with ambulation. This was my favorite position, because I was able to help keep patients safe by communicating with nursing staff and physicians about lethal heart rhythms and red alarms. I left 64 MS in November 2022 and joined 44/10-5 Peds as an MST. In early 2024, each unit's MSTs were asked to transition to the Telemetry Monitoring Unit, or stay on their unit as a Support Tech. I decided to stay on 44/10-5 Peds as a Support Tech.
I started in Dietary Services in the dish room, became a Food and Nutrition Assistant, making patient meal trays, then I was promoted to a Patient Dining Associate where I took orders for patients and ensured timely and accurate delivery of their meals.
I started as a drive thru attendant, was promoted to drive thru specialist, then Shift Leader, then a salaried Manager. The company transitioned from a corporation to franchise only, so I felt my growth was complete.
