Tammy Thorvilson

Counseling Student

Summary

I am a nontraditional student with valuable professional work and life experience. I am eager to learn from experienced counseling professionals and provide inclusive support and respect for all individuals. My experience working with homeless youth left me with a strong desire to help others. I am familiar with therapy and people from all socio-economic statuses. So, where I lack traditional education, I hope to learn from those working in the trenches daily to help people rise.

I am currently seeking a practicum placement for the Spring of 2025. I am ready to learn from those working in the field of counseling. I am committed to providing inclusive support and respect for all individuals. My passion is to help those in need; I believe we all have the inner fortitude to grow and change if we are willing, no matter our life circumstances. I follow directions and understand the complexity of human interactions. Through my education, I am becoming more aware of utilizing my training and what I have learned through my life experiences.

I practice self-care daily through mindfulness, strengthening my patience and ability to be present and listen to individuals. One of the courses I took this summer was on Mindfulness and Psychotherapy. The positive reinforcement of the class about mindfulness made me feel this change in my professional life is exactly where I am to be.
