- I maintain the IV department on my own. I enter IV’s into our computer system (DX), I stage and label all premixed/frozen IV’s, and I stage and compound IV’s that do not come as a premix - mostly antibiotics. I am able to enter IV’s accurately, performing proper calculations needed. I complete the daily cleaning of the clean and ante-rooms, as well as the monthly clean. I am well versed with aseptic technique, making sure we stay compliant with USP 797. I order all medication and supplies for my department. I also maintain our IV pumps, cleaning and testing each one before it goes back on the shelf to be rented out. I also make phone calls to nursing homes to gather patient info regarding IV’s, including bloodwork for vancomycin troughs or gentamicin peaks.
- Bi-annually I also lead aseptic testing for all pharmacists and myself. I create a schedule, file all paperwork, make sure all fingerprints and samples are taken accurately and ship them out for testing at Omnicare’s central IV location.
- I am also well versed with non-sterile compounding. I oversee the department and ensure we are staying compliant with USP 795. Currently we only do non-hazardous compounding for both IV’s and non-sterile, but I have the training to compound hazardous IV’s if needed.

I would print labels from our computer system (DX) and send them to all areas of the pharmacy. I also worked weekends - so I was the pharmacist’s right hand on the weekends due to my ability to work in any department. I am able to fill topical, oral, PO, and narcotic prescriptions quickly and accurately. It was also my job on the weekends to make sure the run made it out on time.
