- My junior and senior year of college, I worked as a Direct Support Professional in a group home. The most valuable thing I learned over two years of working there, was patience. Throughout my two years at the company I also worked at two different houses with eight separate clients.
- My job responsibilities included providing assistance to individuals with daily activities such as personal care, meal preparation and medication reminders, and instructed individuals in self-advocacy skills to increase autonomy and decision making abilities.
- Even though behavioral therapy is not my long -term career goal, the time I spent with my clients was eye opening, challenging, sometimes frustrating, but most of all rewarding.
- Working in an environment like that taught me a lot about respecting others, and learning how to compromise, which are skills that I will take with me in future job opportunities.
Volunteer Sales and Marketing Position

- My sophomore and junior years of college, I volunteered to do ticket sales and social media marketing for my college's Fall and Spring homecomings. I was in charge of advertising the two events on my social media pages, and keeping track of ticket sales and the money from the tickets I was able to sell.
- I was very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of that because it gave me experience in the advertising and marketing fields, even if it was on a smaller scale.
- Taking on that responsibility really sharpened my organizational and communication skills. Without those two things, I would have not been as successful as I was when it came to the number of tickets I sold individually.

- The years prior to my Direct Support Professional position, I held a variety of jobs throughout my high school and early college days. Those jobs included being a dog care attendant, server, dishwasher, and a child care assistant.
- For me, being a server and a dishwasher opened the door to learning about the hospitality industry. I was also able to experience the value of team work and respect for your coworkers through my time in those positions. While working as a child care assistant and dog care attendant, I learned a lot about responsibility and not only how to take accountability for your mistakes, but how to learn from them as well.
- Each of these jobs that I have been a part of have helped me prepare for a future career in their own unique way, and I am grateful for all that they taught me.

I recently took the Clifton Strength Finders Test through Gallup, Inc. At the end of the thirty minute questionnaire, it shows you the results of your top five greatest strengths. My top five are; Positivity, Developer, Harmony, Empathy, and Adaptability. It also told me that I lead my life with relationship building themes. I scored second highest in the influencing themes category, and then strategic thinking. I believe that I am a great team player, listener, and friend, which is why I believe my results could not have been more accurate. I love building relationships with new people and consider myself an extrovert when it comes to talking to strangers. I take great pride in being a relationship builder because it is a key part in being successful in your every day life, and in future careers.
