Work History

Oncology & Hematology Assistant Case Manager

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium
Anchorage, AK
09.2024 - 09.2025

Aids Case Managers in the department by delivering patient care, managing reception duties, and offering general administrative support.

  • Coordinated patient referrals to specialists while documenting follow-up appointments after provider visits.
  • Assisted with scheduling diagnostic tests and telemedicine visits, confirming resource availability.
  • Aided staff with patient admissions by verifying paperwork and entering orders into electronic systems.
  • Verified accuracy of treatment records before submission to Medical Records, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Tracked patient progress in electronic health records, setting reminders for upcoming care requirements.
  • Created and updated new patient records, ensuring compliance with privacy laws.
  • Confirmed insurance eligibility and updated billing information according to policy changes.

Within two weeks of commencing employment at the Alaska Native Hospital, I assumed independent responsibilities due to staffing shortages. I scheduled over 700 patients within one month with minimal training—substantially surpassing the approximately 400 patients scheduled by other colleagues—demonstrating my rapid adaptability and capacity to perform under pressure. I utilized available resources and proactively acquired proficiency in the unfamiliar computer system efficiently. Throughout my tenure, I consistently ranked among the top two assistant case managers in both patient scheduling and managing telephone communications, as evidenced by data from monthly meetings. I take pride in my discipline and work ethic, particularly when volunteering to oversee Clinic Referrals, where I successfully scheduled and coordinated patient visits with specialists, thereby clearing the backlog. This initiative achieved a 97% scheduling rate for clinic referrals, resulting in the highest referral acceptance and scheduling rates within the hospital. I consider this a significant achievement, especially given that it was my first experience working in a hospital setting.

I was honored to be considered for training new employees after five months at the clinic. Although I respectfully declined, believing that others with more comprehensive clinic knowledge and experience would be better suited, I remain confident in my strengths. I comprehend when to lead training efforts, and when to rely on more qualified team members.

During my tenure at the clinic, I have consistently arrived thirty minutes before my scheduled shift. My routine begins with reviewing new work emails, with a particular focus on urgent matters that require immediate attention. Additionally, I check for any discrepancies or issues reported the previous day that may necessitate my follow-up. This early arrival also enables me to prepare for scenarios in which a coworker might arrive late or call out, which is common in our busy clinic. My punctuality and proactive approach have proven highly beneficial, ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic despite staffing shortages, thereby enhancing our capacity to serve patients and uphold high standards of care.

I firmly believe in the importance of teamwork, mutual support, and assisting one another through education and shared experience. Uplifting colleagues and recognizing that every individual has a vital role in the workplace are essential aspects of a productive environment. Through proper training, respectful treatment, and clear communication of expectations, I foster a collaborative atmosphere. To promote these values, I frequently send commendatory emails to supervisors and human resources, highlighting colleagues who demonstrate helpfulness, embody humility, and foster teamwork. Their support not only fosters a positive work culture, but also enables me to exceed expectations consistently.

At the clinic, I endorse a strong work ethic by emphasizing productivity and discouraging unproductive activities, such as excessive socializing during work hours. My maturity and discipline have had a positive impact on team dynamics.

After undergoing a hysterectomy in April 2022 to remove a stomach tumor, the procedure brought persistent abdominal pain, which occurred several times a day with varying intensity. Recognizing the need to be closer to the oncologist for ongoing care, the decision was made to relocate to Anchorage and resign from the City of Unalaska, Department of Public Safety, in April 2023, to focus on self-care with a plan to return to law enforcement once fully recovered.

Police Officer

City of Unalaska, Department of Public Safety
Unalaska, Alaska
02.2014 - 04.2023

My role encompasses additional duties, such as supporting police management and overseeing a wide range of advanced law enforcement duties, all while prioritizing the highest duties of safeguarding freedom, preserving life and property, protecting the constitutional rights of citizens, and maintaining respect for the rule of law by proper enforcement to preserve democratic processes.

  • An essential aspect of my role was proactively assuming additional responsibilities without instruction and effectively completing them with minimal supervision or guidance. This initiative has led to being entrusted with considerable responsibility, including liaising with state and federal regulatory agencies to streamline investigation completion.
  • Enforcing city ordinances, state statutes, and federal laws and regulations through fair methods without misuse of force. This approach advocates for community policing and safety through educational and outreach initiatives.
  • Reviewing Criminal Complaints, Search Warrant Affidavits, Paperwork- DUI, Title-47, MVA 12-200, RLS, SOR, SART Exam, Citations, Evidence, Civil Service, and all police reports and investigation documents to ensure they are complete, accurate, and in line with department standard operation guidelines and policies before sending them to the District Attorneys, Judges/Magistrates, Medical Examiner, AK Crime Laboratory, AK Division of Motor Vehicles, AK Office of Children Services, and other involved agencies and investigators.
  • Actively visiting local stores, clinics, bars, fishing plants, gyms, parks, libraries, churches, and senior centers, providing animal control services, assisting troopers in enforcing fishing regulations, chasing eagles off the playgrounds, inside boats and stores, unlocking vehicles, and performing house checks, welfare checks, and supporting young entrepreneurs and local organizations by purchasing their products, greeting outdoor family celebrations, attending annual community events, and creating public radio announcements on various topics related to public safety to ensure that the community feels the presence and support from police.
  • Engaging often with the public, minority, ethnic, and immigrant communities and local businesses to identify concerns. These contacts involve clarifying relevant laws, seeking cooperation in informing of crimes, working with them to tackle those issues, encouraging community-based solutions, and enforcing necessary measures while establishing a trusted partnership.
  • Performing traffic enforcement and enforcing regulations concerning commercial vehicles to promote traffic safety, actively patrolling and addressing illegal or unsafe driving practices by providing advice, issuing citations, or making arrests as necessary. Also, reporting unsafe road conditions and preparing court testimony and evidence presentation if a driver contests a citation in court.
  • Inspecting and maintaining police-related equipment, patrol vehicles, facilities, and uniforms to confirm proper function, use, and appearance, and promptly reporting any discrepancies, modifications, or needed replacements.
  • Assisting families with the funeral preparation of their deceased loved ones involves coordinating with funeral homes, arranging transportation, and, when necessary, overseeing the dressing of the deceased. I approached this responsibility with the utmost care and sensitivity to help alleviate the burden on grieving families during a tough time.
  • Training in identifying explosive ordnance. In the event of a discovered potentially unexploded ordnance, secure the area and promptly notify the US Air Force 673d Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to ensure safe disposal.
  • Skilled in organizing and seeking assistance through communication, collaboration, and constructive joint effort for emergencies, such as locating individuals in the ocean or on land in challenging weather conditions when all local resources are depleted.
  • Collaborating with school administrators to establish safe, drug-free environments and encourage positive youth development through fostering meaningful partnerships.
  • Training, evaluating, and preparing recruits, modeling the desired behavior through support, high communication, clear expectations, rationales, and rapport.
  • Participating as a guest speaker for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention (SAAP) and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, delivering crucial information and raising awareness about these significant issues on local radio and in schools.
  • Exercising broad discretion in various situations under conditions that allow it all while developing a reputation for integrity, civility, and fairness garners respect from all citizens, including minority or disadvantaged groups.
  • Assisting individuals at risk of physical harm, supporting those unable to care for themselves, mediating conflicts, and connecting individuals in need with appropriate community services for necessary support. For instance, evaluating Title-47 cases, people who are helpless because of mental illness or personal distress.
  • Identify criminal offenders and criminal activity, apprehend offenders where appropriate, participate in subsequent court proceedings, and reduce the opportunities for the commission of some crimes through preventive patrol and other measures. For example, active airport indoor presence reduces inappropriate and criminal incidents, as well as not permitting observed intoxicated, aggressive persons engaging in unruly behavior to board a plane for the safety of everyone on the plane.
  • Always stay current on revisions to the law, especially those involving the use of force, search and seizure, interrogations, and criminal statutes.
