Special FEMA Assignments

  • 1) 9/2004 DR-1551-FL Hurricane Ivan. Search and Assessment Team Escambia and Santa Rosa County, FL. Title: Task Force Leader. Responsible for a team of 24 new FEMA specialists to caravan to Pensacola FL directly after Hurricane Irma’s landfall and search for any survivors and or remains to report to local officials and first responders for medical attention. Staged and housed in Conex on Saufley Air Base. Structural assessments were conducted, and reports sent up the chain of command to the FCO in Orlando) reporting percentage of total losses.
  • 2) 10/2004 DR-1561-FL Hurricane Jeanne. Haitian Outreach / Collaboration South Florida. Title: Technical Outreach Specialist Collaborated with Haitian Church leaders, African American Food Distribution Businesses and area leaders to organize an outreach to deliver basic needs (Food, Water and Ice) to the reported 100,000 plus Haitian individuals that were struggling following the four Hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004. These underserved communities were either overlooked and or afraid to go to distribution centers with National Guard officers, because of immigration concerns. Worked closely with Florida State Emergency Management Officials and National Guard Commanders to accomplish a successful outreach mission.
  • 3) 9/2008 DR-1781-TX Hurricane Ike. Damage assessments of Beaumont, Galveston Island, & Houston. Title: Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff (FCO Cadre) Worked directly with the Deputy Chief of Staff, traveling to each city working with local officials and law enforcement to assess full extent of damages, resources needed for the general public, logistics for distribution centers, and temporary housing, staffing and security. Created a database to track all damages, findings and recommendations.
  • 4) 4/2011 DR-4596-AL. EF4 Tornado. Damage assessment of neighborhoods in Tuscaloosa, AL. Title: D.A. Team Lead. Worked directly with local law enforcement and officials to identify areas that had not been surveyed directly after the tornado. Mapped / GPS locations of where down power lines were found as well as unsafe structures. Called for barricade placements as well as Power Company to dispatch crew to assess downed power lines.
