I have been a P&D driver for just over 2 years and before that ran linehaul and was a team driver with Central. As a driver I have received a 5 year safe driver award, have received a 100% pass several times by DOT officers in both level 1 and 2 inspections, was named driver of the month for the entire company as a whole. I even started a driver of the month program once after taking on the role of a driver lead, which was a first at the Nashville location. I presented a very detailed plan to my then terminal manager, and the district manager, which included me taking on the shortest linehaul run we had so i could be back to the terminal before all other drivers and be finished with all my duties. This allowed me to than be a lead on the dock where I did all of the training of new drivers, I was responsible for being sure all drivers followed all set forth safety rules, i scanned freight improperly loaded and helped the driver rework it in the trailer to ensure proper loading for less damage to freight. I also helped productivity by having drivers set aside all firefight needing recouped and I would recoup it as they continued running freight. All of this I did after I'd been through several audits and seen managers begin to really crack down on all the audit items such as safety and freight loading, but they wouldn't enforce it aside from the few days before an audit. I felt this was never going to produce the results of creating an environment where following all procedures in place in our company SOP at all times and making them become habit. Instead it lead to several failed audits and I can proudly say during my time as the Lead on the dock we passed two audits with a perfect score. I developed a driver of the month program where I watched for things like seatbelt use, use of horn when backing out of trailer, scan integrity where driver had zero missing freight after unloading their assigned trailer, and several other factors. I also held weekly safety meetings with drivers and i presenter the driver of the month prize to the selected driver at one of these each month.
