I am an operations specialist with over 20 years of progressive refinery experience with proven leadership skills. My drive has always been knowing more today than I did yesterday and passing that wisdom down to those that came into the industry behind me. I have worked my way up from an entry level operator to a Shift Supervisor. Along the way I have become highly skilled in emergency response/ICS structure, supervised refinery turnarounds, instructed process unit classes, and have become a subject matter expert on the units in my area. I am a high motivated person and love what I do!
As a Shift Supervisor, I am responsible for leading the start-of-shift meeting and setting priorities for the shift. I manage the shift schedule and am responsible for ensuring the timekeeping is correct and up to date. I am responsible for ensuring all unit upsets are responded to safely and that proper procedures are being used. I oversee the control board operators and assist in optimizing the units in the refinery. I become the Incident Commander and lead any response relating to major leaks, fires, oil spills, or any major flaring event. I interface with the city and any outside agencies during these events. I am a member of the fire department and am highly trained in industrial fire fighting/HazMat response. I am fluent in SAP and ensure all equipment in need of maintenance is prepared on time and safely locked/tagged out. I work with the operators to make sure all confined space jobs are gas tested safe and permitted properly for entry. I am gas test qualified and highly trained in gas testing procedures. Safety is my highest priority. I hold daily safety meetings and always have a safety topic to discuss.
As an Operations Supervisor, I am in charge of a team of operators and ensure my complex (two Hydrogen plants, Hydrocracker, Utilities, and a Cogeneration unit) is ran in a safe, stable, and reliable condition and within environmental limits. I am control board qualified and backfill the control board operator in their absence. I work with the control board operators to optimize the units in my complex and assist whenever unit upsets occur. I am in charge of making sure equipment is prepared in a safe, timely manner for maintenance crews and ensure my operators are completing their tasks safely and timely. I am in charge of leading my team through unit upsets and ensure procedures are completed safely and proficiently. During turnaround periods, I am responsible for supervising unit shutdowns and startups and ensuring the equipment is prepared on schedule. I am also responsible for my teams timekeeping, employee performance reviews, and training. I am also a qualified backup shift superintendent and backfill that role whenever it is needed. In that role, I work directly with the refinery leadership team to ensure safe, stable, and reliable operations of the refinery as a whole. That role requires me to oversee the complete operation of the refinery and become incident commander during refinery emergencies and have close communication with multiple outside agencies.
As a refinery operator, I was responsible for ensuring the safe, stable, reliable operation of the unit I was working. I was a qualified operator for 2 Hydrogen plants, Hydrocracker, utilities unit, Cogeneration unit, oil movements, and the crude oil dock. I was responsible for completing unit checks, preparing equipment for maintenance, gas testing, troubleshooting upsets, taking samples of product streams, and starting up/shutting down units for turnarounds/unplanned outages. Along the way I became a subject matter expert on the units in my complex.
