What Inspires Ahvee Wilson?
Many people have either been wrongly incarcerated or have not received due justice with a lawyer they may have been appointed. I plan to change the tide and be able to help those who cannot help themselves. Growing up, my parents always reminded me and my siblings how blessed and fortunate we are. They instilled in us that being able to give back to the community is of high importance and something that we should partake in. This is the reason why I want to be a lawyer, to be able to give back to minorities and people who look like me. As African Americans, we are put at a disadvantage just by the color of our skin. It is a known fact that African American men and women are more subject to injustices than Caucasian men and women, it’s just the way the system works. Although, with the help of this program I plan to change the system. I am passionate about making a difference for others.
I am eager to pursue opportunities such as mentorships and internships, that will serve as my molding tool and stepping stone into the legal field.
We work with more than 700 community-based partners—including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, shelters and senior centers—to distribute an average of 9.7 million pounds of food each month, or approximately 8 million+ meals to our neighbors who are food insecure in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. In February 2023, with the support of a caring community of partners, advocates, donors, and volunteers, we distributed our 1 Billionth meal into the community.
The significance of this drive is to provide school supplies and other services to the less fortunate children and community in Thomson. Many of them are not as blessed or able to receive the school supplies they need in order to be successful in school so the purpose of the drive is to provide these items for them, at no cost. The experience that I get every year by helping organize and volunteering at the drive is a very rewarding experience. I am able to do God’s work and give back to others.
