• Using a computer-aided dispatch system, receive emergency calls from the public requesting fire, medical or other emergency services. Determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch fire ambulance or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. Receive and process 911 emergency calls, maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of fire or medical units. Monitor direct emergency alarms, answer non-emergency calls for assistance. Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems. Receive requests for information and provides pertinent data. Monitor several complex public safety radio frequencies. Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones and computer systems.

Aide National Grid in keeping the integrity of the gas infrastructure intact by meeting with contractors and educating them by using the 811 call before you dig format to avoid damage to the gas system, thereby creating a public health issue.

• Provide management advice and technical assistance to fire companies, municipal corporation and districts relating to fire and arson prevention and control and serve as a clearinghouse of information fire and arson prevention and control and State and Federal services available to assist in solving such problems: Plan, coordinate and provide training for firefighters, both paid and volunteer, and other governmental officers; Provide assistance in the development of arson investigation programs of suspected arson upon request; Improve arson evidence analysis and testing through the Arson Laboratory Improvement Program. Collect, compile, and disseminate information relating to fire and arson prevention and control and operate a State Fire reporting System; Operate the New York State Academy of Fire Science. Establish goals and objectives for a statewide, comprehensive public education plan for fire safety and prevention; Provide for fire safety inspections of State or State-regulated facilities upon request; prepare and recommend revisions, consolidations or compilation of statues relating to arson and fire prevention and control; and maintain the State Fire Mobilization and Mutual Aid Plan
