My name is Chudier Marial, and I am currently 20 years old. I am a first-generation college student hoping to fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse and helping those in need. Both of my parents are immigrants who came to the U.S. in the 90s from South Sudan. I’ve had the pleasure of going back to visit where my parents grew up and were born, and that has motivated me to not only go to school and get my degree, but also to help those who are in need and can’t easily get support. I am currently at UAA to become a nurse and work in the healthcare field once I’m able to get my degree. I do aspire to go back home and work in a hospital for those who need it. I have excellent communication and problem-solving skills from working in retail, and it really taught me patience and the ability to work with others.
I did take care of my grandma for five years, as she had a strong and long ride to recovery before she passed away, so I do have much experience in caretaking, assisting in basic daily living tasks, and in physical therapy.
