In this workplace, I am responsible for many things.
I am a server, so with this position, I need to be able to work more independently, as I am 'working for myself.' With this, I need to be able to multitask very well, so I can manage and assist however many tables I have at the time.
This position has also taught me to improve my customer service skills, organization skills, and time management skills, so that I work and perform as effectively as possible to ensure that my guests leave my place of business happy.
Some examples of the work I do with this role include getting drinks for all guests at my table, accurately taking their orders, taking their food to their table, checking on them to ensure they are happy with their food, getting them to-go boxes or drinks, taking them their bill, clearing and pre-bussing their table, and then getting it cleaned off after they leave.
In this role, I also sweep up messes, mop floors, clean spills, answer phone calls when needed, and also accurately perform my cut duties, which often include: preparing extra sugar for tea on the next shift, filling extra BBQ sauce bottles, taking out trash, stocking and refilling the expo line, sweeping, stocking wood for the smoker for the next day, and rolling silverware.
One huge part of this job that has taught me how to manage my time much more effectively is that at times I can have 8 or more tables. With this many tables at a time, I need to work quickly and effectively to ensure that every guest is taken care of efficiently and with the best service I can possibly give them.
I have also trained more than 10 individuals to be servers.
