As a student assistant at Good Samaritan Hospital, I was able to aid my mentor, who was a Registered Nurse, by performing tasks that enabled her and the other nurses to work more efficiently and better the care of patients all while being exposed to the medical field environment. I worked in the Same-Day-Surgery unit where patients stayed prior to and after they had surgery. To prepare for a patient's arrival, I would ensure that their room was plentiful with medical supplies, make their bed neat and tidy, stock up the drawers with extra socks and gowns, and offer a warm blanket to comfort them in order to lessen any potential stress they may have about their procedure. Post-surgery, I got to know patients on a more personal level as I discharged them and directly took them to their cars to meet their loved ones. This summer job experience allowed me to see behind-the-scenes of the medical field and gave me a glimpse into the strong work ethic and philanthropic attitude of Trihealth as whole.
