After graduating high school, I was unsure of exactly what path I wanted to pursue, but I knew I wanted a career in the medical field. I decided to enroll in a phlebotomy course, and quickly developed a passion for the work. After completing the program, I then went to go the extra step and took the ASPT to become certified. I began my career at a local hospital, where I gained experience working in a fast paced environment on all shifts. I developed a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently under pressure. After several years in the hospital setting, I joined LabTech Diagnostics, which later became Quest. I have now been employed by Lab Tech/ Quest for 6 years, growing from a Phlebotomist into a PSR III and gaining knowledge oh phlebotomy, laboratory operations, test codes, diagnosis codes and patient service/customer care. I feel that I ma ready to take the next step by moving beyond phlebotomy and continuing to grow my career within Quest in a new role where I can utilize my knowledge and skills in a different role within Quest.
Over the past 6 years with Quest, I have worked my way up to a PSR III by consistently being dedicated to showing up to provide the best patient care, I am reliable, and I have a strong willingness to learn. Throughout my time with Quest I have learned and gained knowledge of phlebotomy, diagnosis codes, test codes, specimen requirements, and the over-all lab process. I am a strong problem solver who is able to troubleshoot issues and research answers to find a solution independently when need be. I take pride in my ability to adapt, learn new processes, and use my experience to provide accurate and efficient service while supporting both patient and my team.
I also had the opportunity to help instruct a phlebotomy class for several semesters, where I supported students who were pursuing a career in the medical field.
Helping instruct a Phlebotomy class for several semesters was a big accomplishment for me. I have a stutter that has challenged my confidence and held me back in certain aspects of my life, especially when it comes to speaking in front of others.
