Highly experienced librarian dedicated to the preservation, access, and use of content, especially content that represents voices and experiences that have been historically left out of mainstream publishing and is thus unique, hard to find through typical discovery tools, and at risk of being lost.
Member of the senior leadership team, responsible for developing and maintaining the Libraries' operating budget and all CFAO responsibilities. Supervise and support the Facilities Manager, including direct involvement with larger projects occurring throughout the building. Supervise staff who support student employee hiring and their supervisors through an engaged committee, a common orientation, and student employee events. Support all staff with Human Resources processes in cooperation with the University Human Resource office and the Business Services Center. I have a steep learning curve in this position, stepped into this with no reasonable alternatives.
Directed the Senior Leadership team, working with them to identify library-wide priorities, initiatives, and actions including budget and spending. Communicated library successes and challenges to University leadership and advocated on behalf of the staff, services, and collections. Participated in University leadership meetings and workshops, and represented the University in significant memberships like ARL and OhioLINK. Developed donor strategies and relationships. Ensured the broadest allowable use of endowment and gift funds.
Working with Senior Leadership, negotiated a signficant reporting model to allow an Assistant Dean to primarily work in another unit. Implemented a new annual evaluation process, including a calibration exercise, driven by University Human Resources. Adapted professional development support for staff to align with our budget. Prepared for and successfully onboarded a new dean.
This is my permanent position, currently filled with an interim appointee as I assume other roles for the stability of the Libraries. In this position I am part of the senior leadership team, contributing to conversations and planning for staffing, building projects, services, and the budget. Direct reporting responsibility for acquisitions, collections, metadata services, circulation, digital initiatives, off-site storage, special collections, University archives, and preservation. Responsible for articulating collection development strategies and oversight of the successful selection, acquisition, description, preservation and discovery of collections. Provide leadership in the development of a strategic, scalable, and sustainable collections initiatives.
Lead and managed seven staff responsible for cataloging and processing all new acquisitions and gifts in all formats and for all collections including music, archives, fine arts and OU’s internationally recognized Southeast Asia collection. Worked cooperatively with staff from multiple departments including special collections, preservation and off-site storage to reduce backlogs, transfer materials, and ensure processes are clear and follow local guidelines. Collaborated with digital initiatives to assist with special projects. Recommended and implemented process improvement, new technologies, and services. Worked closely with staff responsible for Millennium integrated library system maintenance to ensure effective management and data integrity.
Lead and managed seven staff responsible for acquisitions ordering and payment, electronic resource management, reserves processing, and interlibrary loan/document delivery operations. Oversaw annual expenditures of more than $5M. Worked closely with collection development and subject librarians assisting with annual allocations, monitoring expenditures, reviewing and reporting use. Negotiated pricing and licensing for electronic resources. Recommended and implemented process improvement, new technologies and services. Initially this position was Head of Acquisitions & Serials Control, interlibrary loan was added in 2007 and reserves was added in 2010.
