For many years, I have held a lifelong ambition to serve my community in emergency medical services. Life led me down a different path after high school, but nearly 20 years of working with the Athens Community Council on Aging have enhanced skills that I believe help in providing high‑quality, compassionate emergency care. In 2023, I was given the opportunity to begin a career path change, and was accepted to the EMT-B class at MCEMS with Coty Martin. Then, in 2025, I was able to take a course with Casey Land at Athens Technical College.
My work with the Athens Community Council on Aging (ACCA) has taught me how to adapt quickly to ever changing circumstances while maintaining professionalism. I have developed strong interpersonal skills, treat every individual with kindness and respect, and maintain confidentiality and regulatory compliance (including HIPAA). I bring genuine empathy and sympathy to interactions — whether with elderly clients and community members, family caregivers, or colleagues — and I understand the importance of listening, giving dignity, and doing what I can to help.
I know that as an EMT, the demands are intense: being able to assess patients’ condition, make quick decisions under pressure, work with paramedics and other first responders, and maintain calm and clear communication. I am eager to train, learn, and grow under the supervision of experienced EMTs and Paramedics. I believe my career at ACCA has prepared me to stay levelheaded in stressful situations, to communicate effectively, and to prioritize patient care.
