Parliament Parties

In 1992 I created an event called Parliament ,which at the time was a new experience for everyone involving house, music and electronic music. Being British myself Parliament was the name used to entice all the ex Pats from the UK is it cold in the UK community, living in Southern California,to come to these weekly parties. I found a location downtown LA, which was an art gallery with a 400 person capacity. With the help of friends we had a DJ lineup that would go from 10 PM all the way through to the early hours of the morning. I was in charge of promotion ordering alcohol, which we gave away due to permits. I made the location a unique space, supplying the sound, the lights and the security this party successfully went on for over a year every single weekend, and we were at full capacity every time .we were forced to stop when the laws changed, and we started to need a permit which this location was not able to achieve. I reinvented Parliament as a monthly and we would move it around Los Angeles and Hollywood and find amazing locations through a movie location. Scout I continued Parliament for the next three years and had it once a month. We would draw between 500 and 1000 people and Parliament was growing every time we hadit. We had our three year anniversary at a club called glam slam which was owned by the musician Prince .At 3AM. We opened the doors to which the management of the club were laughing at us that we wouldn’t even bring in a crowd, but by 2:30 AM. There was a line over a block long five people thick. Prince already had left the building to go home and was called back by the manager to witness what was happening . We had 1500 people through the door that night or should I say that morning and Prince himself could not even believe what He was witnessing,as he himself ,struggled to fill his own club. I stopped doing Parliament around 1997, but had reunion parties throughout the years, which would always be full capacity. Just recently I was talked into doing a 30 year anniversary ,which originally I was not very optimistic about because I thought who would want to come to a party 30 years later. I hired the same DJs from the 90s that were more than happy to get a gig at something meaningful. This particular night there was an extremely bad storm which poured bucketloads of rain that whole weekend. This particular night we drew in over 600 people and made $14,000 on the bar, which was a record for this location. I have thrown hundreds of parties and hired over 1000 dj’s in my time of being an underground Los Angeles promoter.

On another note, I created a rave party in 1992, which was called Armageddon and it was held at the Castaic  Lake, north of LA and I was the first person to bring the Producer/DJ/Musician Moby to the West Coast. We had military tanks sitting on the edge of the lake to add to the vibe and lasers skimming across the lake’s surface.we had 10,000 people show up that night and the party actually made history back then as the biggest party that the LA Underground has ever seen. today I lead a relatively quieter life. I have three daughters my oldest who is 22 is learning how to DJ at this time. Electronic music has been part of my life and I still love to listen to it and see DJs perform every once in a while. I still have my hairdressing studio, which I have since downsized to just 4 Stylists working. I work on Fridays and Saturdays only. I would like to bar back and learn how to run a bar possibly to become a bar manager and even if it were possible to bring in DJ’s who I know to bring in a crowd for your bar one day a week. I live on my boat, just a couple of hundred yards away from your bar,so I am very local.I have a vast experience of running a bar and dealing with employees and bar staff. I am good with people and customer service. I have over 30 years as a hairstylist under my belt and have been dealing with customers for years. I think it is very important how you put yourself across to a customer, in order for them to come back again.
