The Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) internship, affiliated with Florida State University, entails collaborating one-on-one with dementia patients in nursing homes to engage in abstract art creation. Following a comprehensive three-hour training session, interns like myself, commit to a 12-week program with the same patient, guiding them through diverse art projects. This initiative empowers patients to exercise autonomy, enabling them to express themselves and communicate emotions non-verbally, fostering independence and self-expression.
During several summers, I served as a gymnastics instructor, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for children to learn the sport's fundamentals. Guiding ages 5 to 14, I focused on enhancing their strength and understanding of gymnastics. Promoted stretching, mobility work, and proper form to help athletes safely build strength. Collaborating with fellow instructors, I also coordinated schedules and activities, prioritizing both fun and safety, in and out of the gym.
