A motto that I live by is, “People speak different languages, but we can all feel the same rhythm when music comes on.” From music to fashion and everything in between and outside, there are so many ways to connect with people on a personal level. This connection is what I strive for in life because, for much of my life, I found it challenging to connect with people.
Coming from a military family, every two to four years, we would have to pack up and move to a new house due to my parents' orders. From being born in New York to living in Arizona, North Carolina, Washington State, Georgia, and best of all, Germany, I've had to adapt to different people and their distinct cultures. All these places have shaped who I am today. In each location, I would learn about what's going on around me and what people are into, using that knowledge to build myself up.
Now, at 21 years old, I love talking to people and making connections!
As a Sales Associate at Spencers, I feel like i've truly been able to showcase my communication, problem solving, and relationship building skills. At the core of the job its the basic folding shirts, cleaning the store, making sure inventory is all out, but theres been so much more that has came out of it. Because of my personal knowledge and love for piercings i've built a relationship with multiple customers that have led that to keep coming back to the store to buy piercings because I gave them a positive and informative experience at the store, which I feel like could be applied to other jobs in life that depend on customer or client experiences.
At Uniqlee my job was to provide customers with a welcoming and informative shopping experience while looking around at the numerous vintage and antique items that were sold at the store. From Vintage Hermes and Pucci handkerchiefs to 24k gold necklaces, every item had a page written about it in this massive handbook and it was my job to memorize as much as i can to provide the customers with detailed shopping experiences. With high price points and an odd exchange policy it was crucial that customers were making concise decisions while shopping and the information i would learn would help with that!
Boone Area Community Radio is a community ran and supported online radio station ran out of 641RPM in Boone,NC. While I lived in Boone I was an active member of the station in a multitude of ways. For myself I was the curator of my own show titled "Into the Net" which for two hours every Friday I would mix different genres of electronic music and often talk about the background of the artist i played and the history of the genre, such as technos roots in Detorit and Drum and Basses roots in Jamacian dub and soundsystem culture.
Outside my show on the radio, the people in charge of the radio tasked me with begin the bridge between them and the younger crowd to get them to join the radio. A lot of the people on the radio were locals to the town but the owners wanted more student participation. This led me to always posting about it on my social media aswell as hosting an interest event that got 5 students to join the roster! This also goes along with the dance parties that the radio would put on around the town where we did events like
