Operations Manager

  • Help implement and install new Automated Sorter and new sortation software
  • Manage a team consisting of an AOM, Clerks, Warehouse Leads, Performance Team employees, and associates from temp agencies
  • Daily manage and tracking of the payroll and accounting for all GL's time, breaks, and pay
  • Have daily communication with the Temp Agencies about their associates and the attendance and performance of their associates.
  • Plan for the next day by looking at volume availability and trailer availability and put in labor request with the agencies to ensure properly staffed.
  • Having meetings with staff to review plans, goals, and expectations for the day and the week.
  • Daily communication with Kohls about freight at the Port, freight in the yard, and equipment needs.
  • As well as review their expectations and needs as a corporation.
  • Work with our CSR Manager and CSR Team to manage the Dray to the building, what will be left at Port, Manage LOS and Free Time to avoid Detention and Demurrage on all equipment.
  • I manage the account that I am assigned, but have also learned how to manage and process the other accounts in the building. Being the only manager on 2nd shift I needed to know all the accounts to assist with the operations and management teams on the shift.
  • I train new OM's, AOM's, Leads, and Clerks for my account and the other accounts in the building as they are hired to get them up to standard in their areas.
  • I work with and have experience in multiple different yard and warehouse management systems. These include Yardview, SoftPoint, WCS, WebEc, WebEz, AS400, and Damco Distribution sites.

  • As the Sort Manger for a Station I was responsible for all 3 operation shifts. The Preload, Day, and Twilight Shifts were all under my hierarchy.
  • I manage 14 managers both part time and full time, 10 admin, and 180 package handlers.
  • Conducted regular audits to identify any discrepancies in sorting processes.
  • I am in charge of all aspects of the operation and administration for all shifts.
  • I have to cover and manage all of the hiring, compliance, safety, production, hours, payroll, vacations, time of requests, coverage responsibilities, scanning, monthly corporate certifications and hazardous materials certifications. I also opened my Reqs for hire, completed On Boarding, and held orientation classes.
  • Set daily staffing requirements to ensure all shifts were staffed adequately to cover absenteeism and be able to process all scheduled work for each day.
  • I was over our Quality Assistance department making sure that we take care of any distressed packages, packages with incorrect addresses, packages that customers wish to have set aside for pick up, and ensure that all packages leave the facility correctly for delivery.
  • I also work with the contractors for delivery of packages to make sure we have good daily plans to ensure there is enough drivers and vans available for the volume each day.
  • I also have to work closely with Line haul to ensure we have enough drivers daily to ensure that all trailers we build are able to be moved to the next destination on time.
  • I work with our customers to make sure that they have empty trailers to load into and that we have drivers their at the correct pick up times to service their packages the day they are due.

  • I worked the Day, Twilight, and OTP shifts at the Chicago Loop location
  • I ran both the unload and load sides of the building in all of the areas as well as manage the return of packages from the van lines that couldn't be delivered
  • I had to balance the staffing of the building along with balancing the work that went up each day in the unload to ensure we had a proper split of work and a clean work area
  • I had to follow up on package handler hours and scanning each day to make sure they were being productive and scanning all of their packages to be on plan
  • I was also in charge of the training class and managing the class for all new hires coming into the building I would teach the class, assign work areas, and make sure their I9 and compliance was up to date.

  • I started off as a loader in the outbound
  • I had to scan and load multiple vehicles each day
  • I moved my way up to being a wall sweep where I was in charge of making sure all of the bulk packages were processed and loaded correctly into the trailers
  • I was responsible for checking and scanning each package I touched to ensure proper visibility and that it was on the correct trailer
  • In 2004 I was promoted to a Pt Supervisor in the outbound
  • As a new part time supervisor I was in charge of running a dock which consisted of 21 doors, multiple destinations, and 9 union package handlers both part time and full time
  • I was responsible for ensuring their time was correct each day, making sure we were running plan on production and scanning
  • I trained and coached my package handlers to be able to do multiple trailers as well as wall sweep to ensure I had coverage at any time for every area
  • I later became a part time lead supervisor eing responsible for overseeing the outbound for the FT supervisor
  • I was in charge of the payroll for the entire outbound and managing volume and hours for the day
  • I had to do daily documentation with the union stewards for misloads with their package handlers
  • I was responsible not only for the package handlers but also the other part time supervisors running docks
  • I had to balance their staffing and manage the cut backs
  • In 2007 I became Full Time Supervisor in the outbound
  • I was responsible for overseeing all of the numbers of production and scanning and misloads
  • I had to manage the compliance for safety and HR for all of my 60+ package handlers and 8 supervisors
  • I was responsible to make sure all hazardous materials training was done for each employee and manager I had to track the numbers hourly and daily to ensure that we were making or exceeding our goals and provide plans of action for any days we didn't make goal to prevent that in the future
  • I maintained above goal and was awarded 2 years in a row for having the highest misload frequency in the areas that I ran
  • I was also incharge of the safety activities in the area and making sure we ran a safe area each day and that employees were leaving work the way that they came in
  • I was given the safety Full Time Supervisor award for going 9 months without having an injury in the work area In 2016 I became a Full Time Coordinator for the primary
  • As a Full Time Coordinator I was in charge of overseeing all of the other 5 FT supervisors on the primary and managing the daily numbers and compliance for their areas
  • I had to set the plans daily for the areas and make sure that the staffing was correct and was balanced among the areas
  • I was in charge of directly reporting the numbers to the manager and above when the manager was off work I had to attend all of the manager meetings and calls in his absence
  • I was also in charge of the Hazardous Materials department and had to make sure they were all compliant and tested weekly on their proper methods.
