From the First Sergeant

  • Marines
  • We have a lot going on this month and several days to accomplish our tasks. In order to hit the ground running, there is a lot of up front preparation that will be required of everyone. Ensure that you are familiar with all of the contents of this drill note as well as the additional attachments. This information needs to be shared with all of our Marines so that all know what our plan is and what we need to be prepared to accomplish! Note that we have transitioned to sleeves down for the October drill.
  • I’m sure that there are still a lot of questions regarding the mobilization. Hopefully, last month’s “town hall” was beneficial for you. If you have questions that were not answered, or if new ones have come up, make sure to bring them up your chain of command. My intent is to be sure that you all have the answers that you need so that you are as prepared as possible.
  • Keep plugging away at your non-resident PME. Leaders, this should be a part of your battle rhythm. We have four days at the HTC where with some key leader engagement, we can make some progress on our PME completion percentages.
  • We expect to have word on the Birthday Ball in the coming days. We don’t have a selling mechanism or exact ticket price yet, but plan on about $80 per ticket. Come prepared with either cash or check payments as this will be the last time that we see each other before the Birthday Ball itself.
  • I look forward to seeing you all!

Mobilization “word”

  • Below are some highlights that will hopefully help you understand more about the upcoming mobilization. Mobilizations can be tough, but remember that this is what we do. We are the Nation’s expeditionary force in readiness and Marines deploy! Preparing yourself and preparing your families will be critical. If you think it’s hard sorting this all out now, try to do it from the other side of the world with a 13 hour time difference. Invest in readiness now and seek assistance from your chain of command if you have questions.
  • If your Mandatory Drill Stop Date is after the mobilization date (looking like 1 July, 2019), you WILL mobilize
  • If you are drilling when the Intent to Mobilize letter is published (I would estimate early January), you WILL mobilize assuming you have enough time left on your contract. Whether you are Obligated or Non-Obligated won’t matter.
  • If you do not have enough time on your contract to cover through the end of the mobilization (May/June 2020), you will have to extend or reenlist to make the mobilization. Seek out SSgt O’Connor if you fall into this boat ASAP!
  • If you are in a Non-Obligated status currently, your choice to or not to mobilize must be made. The Mobilization Manning document must be finalized by October.
  • If you do not have enough time on contract to make the mobilization, you will be moved into an Excess BIC.
  • If you are still obligated to drill (due to your Mandatory Drill Stop Date (MDSD)), you will be in an excess BIC and will be retained on our rolls until your MDSD.
  • If you are NOT obligated to drill (you are currently in a “Non-Ob” drilling status), you will be in an excess BIC and will be involuntarily transferred to the IRR shortly after the October drill.

From the Company Commander

  • Marines and Sailors
  • This drill has a lot of mandatory events stacked into it. Come prepared to begin the Pre-Deployment schedule. Chief amongst our no-fail missions is the medical piece. Basically every Marine in the Company will need to cycle through Medical. Check the roster for what documents you need to bring to drill. The other key events are the CFT, BST, Train the Trainer, Incidental Operator Course, and Platoon hikes.
  • As we progress through the FY19 TEEP, we need to remain aware that many of our events have prerequisite training requirements that must be achieved months in advance. For that reason, we are going to track training more aggressively, implement AARs after each event to assess proficiency, and incorporate considerably more physical training type events into the schedule to prepare for the MCCRE. Remain focused, accept constructive criticism, and provide feedback for ways to improve our processes.
  • As a final note, please police yourselves with regards to updating your administrative matters, pay, and required documentation. I understand that many of you have more questions than answers about the upcoming drill schedule and the deployment. Push those up the chain of command so that we can answer them or find the subject matter expert to get you answers. Looking forward to seeing all of you at next drill.
