During my junior year, I helped organize a small fundraiser at school for our local food bank. Instead of just asking for donations, I set up a snack table with a few friends during lunch—chips, candy, and drinks we got from a nearby dollar store. We kept the prices low, but people showed up every day.
We added a little twist: for an extra dollar, students could write a positive or funny note to a friend and we’d post it on a “Wall of Kindness” in the hallway. That part really took off.
By the end of two weeks, we raised just over $300 and donated it directly to the food bank. It was a simple idea, but it felt good to see how something small could make a difference.
In my junior year, I was honored to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for completing over 100 hours of community service. Most of my hours came from volunteering at a local food pantry and helping out with school-led charity events.
It wasn’t something I was aiming for at first—I just liked being involved and helping out where I could. But when my advisor mentioned I qualified for the award, it felt really rewarding to see all that time and effort recognized.
Getting that certificate and pin was a proud moment for me. It reminded me that even small actions—like stocking shelves or organizing donation drives—can add up to something meaningful.
