My almost 10-year career at Page mechanical group began in 2016 after I graduated high school. When I first started at PMG i worked as a helper in the sheet metal shop. There I learned the how to pre fabricate sheet metal ductwork. I worked as a "tin knocker" bending and fastening the metal duct into manageable runs, transitions, and plenums that would help speed up the installation process. I also helped prep the duct for installation by adding liner, insulation, collars, and slip-in connections. I would then load the duct up for delivery and help with staging it on the jobsite. When the shop slowed down between large new construction projects, I started to help in the service department. My role in service was with the maintenance department, where I assisted with services such as coil cleanings, drain line cleanings, drain pan cleanings, filter changes, pressure washing the inside/outside of cooling towers, cleaning strainers, punching tubes on chillers, and descaling of heat exchangers. I was also given the opportunity to work part-time on large installation projects as a helper.
When I started my junior year in college, I switched all my classes to night, and came on full-time as an assistant estimator in the new construction department. I worked under our senior estimator assisting with equipment counts, data entry, and proposal formatting. Eventually I was able to provide assistance with developing our estimating spreadsheet in excel which helped streamline our internal estimating process. We were able to implement auto calculations for our ductwork and piping installation labor, which including an auto calculated material pricing that I updated on a monthly basis. Towards the end of my time in this position, I was in charge of gathering pricing on specified equipment and materials, then working through the process of getting value engineered options approved. This helped me build relationships with vendors and subcontractors across the industry.
After I graduated college, I was immediately seeking a career role here at PMG. After careful consideration and spending some time with our customer development team, I fell into the role of Service Account Manager. I was well-equipped for the role with the estimating experience I had gained working in new construction. I began to work hard on building my client base and account portfolio. When I started out, I targeted small accounts working to learn the balance of customer relations vs service performance. I specialized in generating new clients and acquiring service agreements / maintenance contracts. Once I had build my base of customers through service agreements, the project opportunities came rolling in. My skills in estimating and contract drafting gave me the ability to turn quotes around quickly, which gave me the chance to bid lots of projects large and small. When I first started out, the projects I bid on were simpler DX refrigerant packaged and split systems. I quickly learned the importance of project management and what was required to bring these jobs in under hours. I slowly transitioned to specializing in the chilled water and condenser water facilities and turnkey project work. My role as account manager at PMG was a full cradle to grave on projects: find the opportunity, estimate, draft contract, sell, and project manage. My commission was only paid when the job was 100% complete and paid in full, so it was always in my best interest to see each project through and coordinate all phases of scheduling.
After just one year as account manager, I quickly rose to the top sales person at PMG. This fueled my competitive nature, and pushed me to seek more large turn key projects. Over the years, my role at PMG has shifted to more of a Sales Manager role, combine with Account Management of our large turn-key special projects. I specialize in coordination of the subcontractors of all trades helping organize project schedules and complex workflows. I've been able to build longstanding relationships with my customers and subcontractors helping secure work while keeping a firm handle on the projects.
