Accomplishments

  • Achieved recognition through effectively running a medical unit which consisted of medically fragile clients which could not be housed in other units that housed more behaviorally challenged clients for their safety. During this time, my team was able to care for clients that were severely diabetic, had kidney failure, cancer stricken and some with heart diseases. There were other medical needs that met the criteria of our services, such as various seizure disorders, ambulatory complications, incontinence and colostomy care. Basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and feeding were also taken into consideration. The unit itself required physical modifications to best fit the needs of these individuals to assist them in their living spaces.

I was recognized by my program director for the implementation of group therapies that included the clients we served in promoting problem solving through their personal and social growth by allowing them to learn to take initiative by running the group session themselves and being able to describe to visitors what the topic of the group session being conducted was about. Clients with low self - esteem gained confidence in themselves to be able to initiate conversation and keep the group responding.
