Work History

Assistant, Pro Scouting

Boston Red Sox
Boston, MA
11.2022 - Current
  • Co-managed 15+ pro scouts and directly supervised 1-2 associates each year. Standardized departmental hiring, training, and oversight processes to more efficiently develop and objectively assess group and individual performance.
  • Significantly improved internal communication with our remote scouts by building a SharePoint site within Microsoft Teams to centralize all relevant protocols, resources, updates, and announcements. Developed an automated tool for scouts to track individual coverage progress and due dates using SQL/R.
  • Collaborated closely with other departments, including Player Development and Player Personnel & Strategy, to synchronize organizational philosophies, efforts, and strengths. Worked regularly with our Systems team to help resolve bugs as well as optimize intranet user interfaces, video libraries, and database structures.
  • Identified and addressed blind spots between statistical models and scouting information to improve internal player valuation projections.
  • Studied MLB's Collective Bargaining Agreement and league rules regarding transactions, roster management, and contracts to ensure compliance while developing roster strategies.
  • Streamlined the documentation of acquisition-related communication between our executive team and agents/other organizations to allow quick and effortless access for relevant office personnel.
  • Bolstered processes for scanning player releases to identify acquisition targets and increase organizational value.
  • Developed and oversaw due diligence processes, which included in-depth social media screening for potential acquisitions and consolidating input from PD staff, analysts, and scouts.
  • Gained significant negotiation experience through involvement in trade discussions and free agency.
  • Traveled across the continent to scout players and write reports.
  • Built and maintained networks throughout baseball to gather and appropriately disclose intelligence.

Intern, Baseball Operations (David Ortiz Fellow)

Boston Red Sox
Boston, MA
02.2022 - 10.2022
  • Pro Scouting: Revamped Pro Scouting coverage management processes to track scout submissions and QC published reports. Familiarized myself with MLB's EBIS system, transaction rules, calendar, and contract structures through daily tracking and documenting of transactions, team salaries, and contract extensions.
  • Major League Strategic Information (MLSI): Built Shiny app to modernize pitch framing reports for catchers. Created a simulator app for coaching staff to assess the impact of on-field strategic decisions with adjustable inputs. Learned the ins and outs of our internal database and data sources.
  • Learned and operated various baseball technologies, including Hawk-Eye, KinaTrax, TrackMan, BATS, and Trajekt.
  • David Ortiz Fellowship: Spent one week in the MLB Commissioner's office, where I networked with league personnel and learned numerous ways the league office can be used as a helpful resource for clubs. Worked closely with MLB's baseball economics department as they prepared for arbitration.

Graduate Student Researcher

Dept. of Pathology, Boston Children’s Hospital
Boston, MA
12.2020 - 01.2022
  • Laboratory of Dr. Naama Kanarek.
  • Successfully earned a Master's degree through my work studying the role of folate in anti-tumor immunity.
  • Significantly improved my writing and presentation skills to author grant proposals.
  • Introduced the lab to immunology-related research projects and methods, which required extensive SOP writing, teaching, and product research/ordering.

Senior Research Associate

Department of Pediatric Oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA & The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Cambridge, MA
Boston, MA
07.2016 - 06.2019
  • Laboratories of Dr. Nick Haining & Dr. Robert Manguso.
  • Played a major role in developing the first genome-wide CRISPR screens in mice using tumor models to identify new targets for immunotherapy, something not done before because of the extensive logistical obstacles involved. Two resulting drugs are currently in clinical trials.
  • Co-authored multiple articles published in some of the most prestigious journals. Presented at the Keystone Symposium on T Cell Dysfunction and Cancer (Breckenridge, CO, 2018).
  • Co-managed 10+ research associates with focuses on coordinating numerous ongoing projects and their deadlines in a limited space, teaching and assessing technique, inventorying and ordering, and creating a positive environment that facilitated growth.
  • Facilitated the onboarding and training of new lab members; developed and wrote SOPs to ensure consistent and reliable work as our team rapidly expanded and evolved.
  • Produced, analyzed, and scavenged from large datasets using field-established methods in Python, Microsoft Excel, and GraphPad Prism.
  • Built a login-protected section to the lab website for uploading, organizing, and visualizing data from a wide range of experiments.

Undergraduate Researcher

Department of Molecular & Cell Biology, UConn
Storrs, CT
01.2013 - 06.2016
  • Laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Campellone.
  • 10-20 hours/week.
  • Successfully completed my Senior Honors Thesis, studying the role of a novel murine protein involved in cytoskeletal control of cell membranes.
  • Presented my findings at the Annual Frontiers in Undergraduate Research Poster Exhibition (UConn, 2015 and 2016).

NIH-NIDDK/KUH Summer Research Fellow

Yale School of Medicine
New Haven, CT
05.2015 - 08.2015
  • Laboratory of Dr. Shuta Ishibe.
  • 50 hours/week while keeping up with off-season training for ice hockey and preparing to take the MCAT that July.
  • Studied the role of vinculin, a cytoskeletal protein, in the cells that form the glomerular filtration barrier in kidneys.
  • Presented at the NIH-KUH Summer Undergraduate Research Conference (Emory University, 2015).
