Goals

I am eager to apply to the Washington State Bar Association's Law Clerk Program, for which I will need to secure full time employment within the legal system as well as a mentor who would be willing to supervise and tutor me through the curriculum provided by the WBA. This four year program would run concurrently with my employment at the King County Department of Public Defense, as it would supply on the job training and education commensurate with experience required to be a successful practitioner of the law. My goal is to provide and participate in meaningful advancement in the protection of rights for individuals most vulnerable and isolated in their sense of powerlessness. Systems whose agendas are anathema to humanity, equality, dignity, and a quality of life inherently deserved by all in society and to which we are all inextricably bound, must be checked at every turn by collective action. Historically the largest civil rights legislation was passed due to the coordinated efforts of the Civil Rights Movement and these organizations were spearheaded by the NAACP's strategy to implement laws as they already existed in the constitution and make them reality for those oppressed by Jim Crow Laws nearly a century after abolition. The point is that individuals had to stand up and fight in order for their legal representatives to successfully challenge systemic racism in the judicial system and incorporate the rights of the accused. We live in different times and different context but systemic racism within our judicial system incarcerates, denies electoral privilege, destroys families, communities, fails to rehabilitate, and hurts the economy by making productive employment impossible or difficult and spending money on expensive policies that favor law enforcement, heavy incarceration sentences, private prisons, at the cost of investment in community resources. The vehicle for change is also the same, addressing infringement of individuals' constitutional rights by advocating for those under served by their government before the court of law. I am a hard worker, passionate and compassionate person, who hopes to make a small impact through dedicated effort where there is much work to do. I hope you will consider me for membership on a team with those who seek justice for all.
