Why become a teacher?

  • Starting college, I was not sure what I wanted my career path to be. However, when I began working at Jasper's Corner, first as a tutor, I fell in love with teaching. Teaching made me feel accomplished when the students I worked with saw improvement in themselves and their learning. I also enjoy the nostalgia I get from working with younger individuals. Their lives are full of hope and excitement, and I only want to further these feelings as an educator.
  • I have decided I would like to pursue a single-subject credential in English to teach middle school education. Throughout my college experience, I have been told that middle school is one of the hardest grades to teach; however, I welcome the challenge. As an educator I want to make an impact on my students in the best possible way. When I think of teachers who influenced me I remember my middle school years. During this age students are going through emotional and physical changes and I want to be a teacher my students can lean and rely on, hopefully remembering in the future.
