I am a people person that loves old forge and where my family has lived for over 100 years. If i am the right person for this position i would like to leave a legacy of well done outdoor adventure activities
As a new broker i was tested and qualified for Paine Webber's vigorous 7 week investment boot camp training school in Weehauken N.J.
In 1980 my two partners, Gary Staab and Ron Smith and myself formed Adirondack River Outfitters inc. A high adventure whitewater rafting company which operated on 5 different rivers throughout nys.
1. Hudson River, North River N.Y.
2. Moose River, Old Forge N.Y.
3. Black River , Watertown, N.Y.
4. Sacandaga River, Lake Luzerne, N.Y.
5. Salmon River, Pulaski, N.Y.
My two main responsibilities were [ but certainly not limited to] generating new customers and retaining an existing customer base and overall river operations management involving all safety measures and criteria, training 30+ New York D.E.C licensed guides, procurring all the necessary equipment, whitewater rafts, life preservers, helmets etc and buses for operations on our 5 different river locations.
In 1982 we set up operations in Watertown N.Y. on the Black River Gorge, the first year we would average 25-30 customers on a weekend day. During the next ten years from late march to mid Sept i spent on an average 4-5 days a week selling our trips, driving 500-1000 miles a week to reach our core audiences in Albany,Utica,Syracuse,Rochester,Buffalo,Ithaca and as far away as toronto. The results speak for themselves. In 1986 on a Sat in mid August we took 335 people [in 1 day] 200 the following day. I consistently filled over 100-120 a day on our Hudson spring trips and 100 the same day on the Moose River.
My institution clients were instrumental to our success. During my 10 or so years on the road i developed relationships with 100's of corporate h/r directors i.e. kodak, hellofagood cheese, paychex, general electric and college institutional decision makers, Cornell,Hobart William Smith, S.U. Colgate, Albany State,Buffalo State, Genesso ,University of Rochester and R.I.T. [This would be the short list} I am a people person and am not the least bit shy when it comes to reaching out to the public to achieve my desired goals. I have used and will again the franklin time management system where you sit down each morning and prioritize goals, projects etc and if they don't get done, they are moved forward to the next day or handed off to another team member. This time management system is crucial to achieve desired goals . During my 12 year tenure as an owner of Adirondack River Outfitters we SAFELY showed over 100,000 of our customers true outdoor high adventure.
At the age of 18 I obtained my unlimited tonnage joint pilot and engineers inland waterway P/V license . I operated my families boats with public passengers. On or about 1973 i went to work for Don Lawson and was the 1st pilot to operate the new P/V Clearwater and worked with Don [best boss i ever had] throughout the years maintaining the boats and see to that our customers always had a safe enjoyable experience on the fulton chain. perhaps all involved with the decision makers don't know me that well or not familiar with my back round, my great grandfather was a notable guide and settled the first camp on twitchel lake in 1870. My grandfather also a guide built "little bayou" a cafe and cabin colony where the view is built today,my dad was born there in 1904 and operated his tour boat buisness along side my mom which operated 3 housekeeping cottages on the hollywood hills rd. where Ralph's cottages are today, where i grew up
