During my time as a Restaurant Busser, I learned the ins-and-outs of the food industry. Although this was not my first food industry job, it was my first restaurant job in which a strict code of conduct was to be followed while working; including a professional uniform, specific way of addressing customers, and table set-up. I developed extensive customer service skills during my time at Chenequa Country Club due to its prestigious and selective members and the upstanding service required. Although working at the Country Club has been my longest employer to date, I have experience in seasonal jobs as well, including my time as a middle school basketball coach and a front desk clerk at a local ski hill. These jobs, although short lived, have provided me with a myriad of skills. As a coach of young girls, I learned how cater my coaching to the young players needs and find ways to motivate them. Since it was most of the girls first time playing basketball in a team setting, I prioritized establishing a good sense of belonging to something greater than oneself and a strong foundation of basic basketball skills. The players and I developed a good and healthy relationship over the course of the short season and I plan on returning to help coach them when I am available. In addition, working at the ski hill provided me with a new set of customer service skills. I worked on a customer-need basis, unlike my work as a busser. This taught me how to quickly problem solve and find solutions for the customers questions and needs they approached me with at the front desk. Lastly, my time as a barista/cashier was my first real job experience. I was offered a better paying position at Chenequa Country Club, which is why I stopped working at Golosi Gelato Café. However, the few months I worked at Golosi provided me with countless new lessons of what it means to be a good employee. I learned how to be professional and responsible, as well as how to manage money. I would often work alone, as the shop was small, so I quickly learned how to manage multiple aspects of the business at once. I served the customers food and drinks, maintained a clean and sanitary restaurant, successfully closed the cash drawers at the end of the night, and made sure the shop was ready for the person who was opening in the morning every shift. All in all, these four jobs have provided me with a vast repertoire of work experience and skills.
I have only been playing tennis for about three years, but it has added to my life physically and socially. I have spent lots of time meeting new people and connecting with friends on the tennis court while also benefiting my physical health. It has been a great way for me to socialize and move my body throughout these last three years.
