I was a Victim Advocate with 5 years of experience providing court, investigation and personal support for victims of crime with Oklahoma City Police Department. I have sound knowledge of community resources and the criminal justice system. I maintained a positive working environment and empathetic approach to victims of assault, sexual assault, homicide survivors, property theft, domestic violence and property crimes. I facilitated communication between Law Enforcement, Judges, Court Staff, Command Staff and partner agencies and my victim. Over the course of my time with Oklahoma City Police Department, I became more aware of some pretty serious compassion fatigue I was experiencing and began looking for a job in Vet Med to avoid burnout and pursue more of what I loved. Blue Pearl Pet Hospital was the provider for the entirety of our K9 Unit Division and it was the career change I needed. My husband retired in 2022 from OCPD and we're in the process of relocating in Matamoras, PA to be close to his family. I seem to have found my niche in Vet Med and feel confident I'll be an asset to any practice.
With numbers from the CDC, showing suicide rates among those in the veterinary profession are significantly higher than for the general U.S. population, I have taken a proactive approach at Blue Pearl by facilitating conversations, resources and support for our staff as a Wellness Ambassador.
