I grew up in Lake Oswego, If I knew then what I know now I would have graduated from high school. When I was in fourth grade we had Valentines Day and we all made bags that we hung on the counter on the back wall of the class room. Everyone brought valentines cards and put them in the bags for each kid. I received a Valentine in my bag, I cried and could not wait to get home and tell my Mom I did not want to go to school anymore. I was humiliated and embarrassed and had nobody to talk to at school.
My Valentine that I think effected my life up until now said " Roses are red violets are black you would look better with a knife in your back" I don't remember my Mom saying anything to the school.
I Had my daughter at 25 and I wanted her to live a safe life. I had a lot of scary things happen to me when I was growing up and I did not want my daughter to feel the way I did in school. I encouraged her I told her about things that could happen and to have her eyes wide open, and no matter what the situation. Please know you can tell Mommy anything. I do not want the children today to feel that suicide is the only way out. I was terrified raising my only child. She is a beautiful well rounded young lady of 29 years old and made it through her life un scathed.
I heard about challenge Day when Ashleigh was 7 years old. I watched it on Oprah Winfrey. I knew then I wanted to be part of the change for our children. I have been afraid to apply for a job with Challenge Job, because I had so me challenges in my life even after Ashleigh was born. If you really knew me...........You would know that I was broken and can relate to these kids going through trauma. I want all kids to graduate from high school and college and make a difference in our future world. Should something happen to Ashleigh, that happened to me early or late in life? Im not scared. I would have addressed it so she feels safe in everyday life.
I am sure we went through trials and tribulations, I got her through them she graduated high school, college and just received her masters degree. Very proud Mommy. I have adopted a little 5 year old Grand Daughter, (My daughter is on 7 different kinds of birth control, so I had to know she is putting me on hold for Grandma) This Little girl I adopted lets me get up in the morning, her name is Olivia, her Mom was killed by a drunk driver last year. It breaks my heart. I am worried she is going to have problems in school. Her Dad is a great Dad. He has his own issues. I try to get Olivia as much as possible, so I can make an impact in her life. When I first was honored to have her in my life. Her attitude already was, I hate school, everyone has a Mommy at school, but me. So these are challenging issues. I just listen and cry when she is not looking. I have had her all year and now I hve her full time now that school is out.
She called me on Sunday Fathers Day and her Dad said "Olivia? Shellie's on the phone" Olivia Says the best words a person can hear. " Shellie? I love you to pieces" I told her I love you too baby.
I had to struggle with my Moms boyfriends, thinking I was their girlfriend and so on I would be devastated if anything like that was to have happened to my own daughter and or Olivia.
Because I experienced that rudeness from my Moms boyfriend, I am very aware of the children's surroundings. The kids love me and I believe after 54 years of living, my calling is to work with these kids. 'I LOVE ALL OF THEM"
I have alot of joy to bring to the kids, I believe I can make a difference in each and everyone of their lives with the strength behind the Challenge Day Team. It is something I have wanted to be a part of, like I said since Ashleigh was 7. I was so touched by the Challenge and I am ready to be a part of your team. I am not sure how many teams you have to go on the road. What I do know is........... I can get the whole state of Oregon Booked for The Challenge Day on the quickness, I just want to be a leader in the Challenge Day at the school. I can book the Challenge anywhere, I still want to be there with the team. I have the money for the workshops and would love the opportunity to be a part of your team regardless of my past. I love and am a great influence on any age kids.
