In the early morning hours of July 4, 2025, I managed a high-risk domestic violence incident involving an armed and volatile subject. I maintained communication with a distressed wife and mother who had contacted 911 while her children were hiding in a closet after witnessing the escalating situation. While coordinating responding units, I provided continuous support and de-escalation efforts, keeping both the victim and suspect engaged in conversation and attempting to gain voluntary compliance.

As the incident evolved, I received information that the suspect was armed with knives and actively threatening those inside the residence. Approximately two minutes before law enforcement arrived, the suspect took his wife hostage. I immediately relayed critical updates to responding deputies, enabling them to accurately assess the rapidly changing threat. Deputies arrived as the suspect exited the residence holding a knife to the victim’s throat. The children were able to safely escape the home before intervention occurred.

Despite extensive efforts to resolve the situation peacefully, deputies were forced to use lethal force to protect the victim’s life. Through effective communication, coordination, and real-time information sharing, responding units arrived in under five minutes, including personnel who were initially located farther than five minutes from the scene. My actions contributed to a rapid and informed law enforcement response during a life-threatening hostage situation.
