Summary

So a little about me: I was born in Chicago with my younger sister. My mom got discharged from the military when she had me. When my dad and mom had my sister, they split up, and my mom started marrying different military men. She also had another child while married to one of her military husbands. She worked at Domino’s and other retail jobs while she was married. Right now, I don’t talk to any of them. We lived in about five different states growing up. When I turned 15, I decided to live with my stepmom and my biological dad, and I have lived in Highwood, Illinois for the last eight years. I went to high school here, and I also went to college, but I failed and still don’t know what I want to do. I’m 23 right now, but I think this could be my opportunity to find a career.

  • Working at Walgreens, I have realized that I might not have the greatest amount of experience or a long job history. However, where I lack in the number of jobs I have had, I make up for it by being an all-around team player. I treat everyone with respect and try to help wherever I can.
  • Working at Walgreens has helped me understand how to handle online orders and replace items when needed. Customers also often have questions about certain products, and I help them find what they need. My time here has also helped me work on my composure and manage my anger in difficult situations. For example, sometimes people who are drunk come into the store and try to buy alcohol, and we have to deny the sale. Some customers get aggressive when they do not want to hand over their ID or even let us look at it.

  • I always make sure the store is clean and properly faced so it looks good for customers, and I vacuum when needed. It has been a great opportunity for me to learn how to better help people and assist them in finding items they are looking for. I know the store like the back of my hand, and I also help unload the truck deliveries, which are usually around 700 pieces. Most of the time, I end up doing about 90% of the work.
  • I always collaborate with my teammates and keep them updated if I have a family emergency. There was a time when my cat died, and I had to take the day off. I texted them to let them know that I would not be able to come in.
  • Working at Walgreens, the one thing I dislike is promoting credit cards. I still try to do it even though I do not want to, because it is part of the job, but I feel like it can be a very predatory system that pushes people into more debt.
