Work History

Crew Member

Yum Sushi Burrito & Poke
Asheville, NC
06.2022 - 08.2025
  • Working at Yum Sushi Burrito & Poke, Eli's job was to serve customers, complete meal orders, cook, wash dishes, keep the store clean, and act as a cashier.
  • What he loved most about this job was that it gave him the autonomy to do things his own way and find ways to improve the small business. While there were many official tasks to be completed, Eli sought out other ways to help, such as taking the initiative to plan and craft an entire nutritional value menu with his manager, doing digital design work for marketing purposes, and taking on certain management functions.
  • Because of his good attitude and history of hard work, Eli's manager became fond of him and allowed him to work as many hours as he wished and take time off whenever he needed, which allowed him to travel for long periods and learn new things.

Cashier

Publix
Hendersonville, NC
10.2024 - 04.2025
  • Eli cashiered at Publix while continuing his employment with Yum Sushi Burrito & Poke because he wanted to gain some experience in a new place.
  • Tasks included cashiering, bagging, carting, restocking, janitorial duty, and running grocery orders.
  • Everything was done with a massive emphasis on customer service, which taught him how to uphold a bright, responsive, and helpful attitude for long periods.
  • Eli loved working here for the few months he did; he had become friends with many of his coworkers, and he was lucky to have amazing managers. However, Eli wanted to use his limited time before college to travel abroad, which was an opportunity he wasn't willing to pass up, so he left on good terms.

Crew Member

McDonald's
Asheville, NC
03.2022 - 06.2022
  • Being his very first job, Eli worked at McDonald's as a cashier, food runner, and cook.
  • Tasks included taking orders, serving customers, handling cash and payments, grilling, frying, food preparation, and various cleaning tasks.
  • Eli left after several months because of multiple coworkers and managers violating various sanitation policies, which, after he voiced concerns about, were never addressed. He didn't mind working in the fast food industry, and learned a lot during his time there.

Solo Travel in Vietnam | 04/2025 - 06/2025

  • Eli spent 7 weeks in Vietnam after graduating from high school early. It was a self-planned and executed trip with the intention of exploring the entirety of the country and experiencing a new culture on his own.
  • In total, he explored almost 20 different cities and towns, spanning the whole country, and got around mainly by motorcycle and night buses. He stayed in large hostels and traveled with people he met along the way. Talking and making friends with locals in different places allowed Eli to develop a rounded understanding of the wonderfully charming and collectivistic culture in Vietnam.
  • While it is informal, he believes it was just as important or more so than his official work experiences. Eli learned from this trip that some of his greatest strengths include his ability to be receptive and curious, open-minded to new perspectives, and able to adapt mentally and physically to whatever situation hes in.

Internship with Optimum Associates | 06/2023 - 07/2023

  • Eli's grandfather, Martin Seldman, is the CEO of Optimum Associates, an executive coaching firm based in Berkeley, CA. Generously, Eli's grandfather invited Eli to intern for him over the summer so that he could learn about executive coaching, business, and the complex world of organizational psychology.
  • For Eli this was an incredible learning experience which also helped him figure out what path he wanted to pursue. This was also Eli's first time being almost completely independent in a new place, which taught him how to manage his time, take care of himself, and stay disciplined without external motivation.

Toastmasters International Member | Since 05/2024

  • Eli has been a regularly contributing and participating member of Toastmasters International, a club that allows and encourages members to practice public speaking, for more than a year. He has gained experience in every role and learned much from those he has grown close with at his local Speechcrafters club.
  • Eli originally joined Toastmasters to overcome his fear of public speaking, and soon after doing so it became such an important part of his life that he committed to becoming a better speaker and communicator by showing up every week and taking up as many roles as he could within the club. He has grown immensely as a public speaker and plans to continue attending Toastmasters International on a weekly basis.

National Honor Society Member | 2022-2025

  • Eli was inducted as a member of the National Honor Society during his Sophomore year at Asheville High School. He had applied because he wanted to be more involved in his community and meet others with similar interests and aspirations to his.
  • Over the course of the next three years, Eli would spend over 100 hours volunteering as an NHS member, mainly at Habitat For Humanity. When hurricane Helene hit Eli's town in Asheville, North Carolina, he had trouble staying connected with NHS, but continued to volunteer tirelessly around his neighborhood and help those he could.
  • Community service has become an integral part of Eli's life and he is always searching for new opportunities to be a part of a good cause. From the countless hours he spent volunteering at Habitat For Humanity, Eli learned an incredible amount about construction and the tasks that go into planning and building a quality home.
