  • Competitive Dancer Jul 2012 - 2023

Grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Total Hours: 3000+

8 Hrs/Week

Description: I have been a competitive dancer since I was 7 years old in 2012. I have trained in the following dance genres: Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Tango. I was a two-time premier regional title winner in 2021 for my contemporary solo. In 2022, I participated in 3 group dances that were selected to compete at the World Dance Championship, and the grand line titled Moulin Rouge won the World Dance Championship title. Throughout the years, I attended 8.5 hours of dance classes each week. I also attend additional dance rehearsals where we perfect our routines. I have had a solo dance each year since 6th grade which requires discipline to rehearse on my own time. My senior year 2023, I had two solo dances, one duo, one trio, and 13 group dances. The grand line titled Copacabana won The World Dance Championship title.

Leadership

  • Mentor to young dancers. Each year my dance studio would match up each older dancer with a younger dancer, which they call "Bigs and Littles." Since 2019, I have been a "big" to three different "little" dancers. Each year I would get to know my "little" dancer and try to inspire them with the confidence they need to perform on the competition stage. Before the first competition and last competition, I would write my "little" dancer a letter of encouragement and give them a small gift.
  • Manage a fundraising Halloween Party maze: Each year since 2019 (except 2020 due to COVID), I have volunteered at my dance studio's Halloween fundraising party. I was part of a small team that was charged with setting up a maze where participants would go through to be spooked. After setting up the maze, I would dress up in a scary costume to give the kids a scare as they made their way through the maze. I would also stay later to make sure everything was put away and cleaned up.
